Hilton who's only response is an apology. I find so much truth in this twitter happening because there are so many people in our community RIGHT NOW that are advocating to end the bullying of our LGBTQ youth, yet are some of the most villainous, hate-spewing, spiteful, vindictive people I've ever met. Why is it OK to advocate for anti-bullying when it comes to youths, yet as adults, we can't be respectful, tactful or communicative with in reason? HYPOCRISY is alive and well in our community... "So as I stated, this man attempting to be the face of anti-bullying campaigns & starting trending topics such as #itgetsbetter,makes no sense. It would be like Umbridge campaigning for free speech, Lockhart promoting modesty or Hagrid lobbying against Peta."

We have organizations that work from places of ego rather than unity. We have "leaders" that chase their names in headlines rather than fighting the good fight. We have a handful of amazing leaders amongst a massive amount of piss poor examples for our LGBTQ youth coming up in the ranks. We aren't planning enough engagements outside of bars, not filled with sex, or with a political agenda intact. Why can't we focus on helping our youth be exactly that: youth! We need to be teaching them about their bodies and how to take take care of them: nutrition, hygiene, staying healthy, exercise, age-appropriate sex education and safe boundaries. We should be educating them on their civic duties as far as registering to vote, jury duty, volunteering in their communities, preparing them for the working force, showing them how to apply for college and grants and scholarships. There are great things happening from 1n10, GLSEN, and very few other organizations that focus on the true well being of our youth. But I just find it sickening, laughable even, that some of the most eager to jump on the bandwagon of "it gets better" (which is a great concept that I am NOT knocking in anyway) are some the biggest bullies in our community. How can we tell our youths that "it gets better" yet the examples of "adult conversations" in our community consist of knock-down-drag-out war of words via facebook, twitter, myspace (some people still use it I think), blogs, notes, websites, we can bash community members in bars, clubs, drag shows, to their friends, family members, jobs, and faces... what gives us the right to come down harshly on youth bullies yet it's ok for us as adults to be bullies to each other?

Our youth deserve better leadership. I am just as guilty for not helping out more in regards to them and I promise to be more involved in advocating, educating and protecting them.

On Thursday 7th October 2010, @Lord_Voldemort7 said:

             reply
I received a large number of response to a tweet I wrote about @perezhilton. My comment, for those that did not see it was: "Perez Hilton is telling people not to bully. Has he read his website? That'd be like if I started a campaign about loving Harry. #hypocrite". The replies to this ranged from vilifying Mr. Hilton to profanity laced ministrations about how I too am a bully.

I'd like to clear something up. I am a bully. I fully accept & embrace this role. I make fun of others for sport & leisure. I mock celebrities when I think they act like morons & I ridicule people who reply to me with terrible spelling & grammar. Why? Why the hell not? I think it's funny and frankly the only person I care about is me. The difference between myself & Perez is that I don't go back on this to attempt to portray myself as a champion against those who are being bullied.

Perez' website is designed to ridicule & mock others. Whether it be a a smarmy comment, unoriginal nickname (kiki drunkst, Mischa Fartone, Slutty Cyrus etc) or a photoshopped picture with drool added; his posts garner attention through bullying. Currently Perez has made anti-bullying his pet project. He has gathered videos from celebrities & reiterated over & over the importance of putting an end to the very ridicule & comments that have made him "famous". Additionally, celebrities have responded to his requests & made their own videos (many of them the celebrities that he mocks on a daily basis). Whether these videos are genuinely because the care about the cause or were created to gain favor with Perez is up to individual discretion. One thing is certain, creating these videos is simply the victims aiding the bully that terrorizes them. It's Pettigrew all over again. (See what I did there? With the reference to the wizarding world? Yeah.)

In spite of my efforts for world domination, there still remains freedom of speech. He is entitled to say whatever he wants. However, to turn around & chastise others for writing "belittling, hateful comments" while calling teen celebrities promiscuous & other celebrities ugly or fat makes him a hypocrite.

His pet cause is those who target homosexuality as the focus of their ridicule and yet Perez repeatedly refers to straight celebrities as "homolicious" or by pet names such as "gayface". He has even gone so far as to question sexualities & in some cases attempted (or succeeded) in forcing celebrities to come out of the closet. He has stated "If I have to drag some people screaming out of the closet, the I will" http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/14065223

So as I stated, this man attempting to be the face of anti-bullying campaigns & starting trending topics such as #itgetsbetter, makes no sense. It would be like Umbridge campaigning for free speech, Lockhart promoting modesty or Hagrid lobbying against Peta. (If you don't get these references you clearly have no idea who I am. Why are you even on my twitter? Go read a book).

People love to hate. That's why Perez is famous. That's why people know who I am. Everyone secretly loves the villain. Plain & simple, Perez Hilton craves attention. He gets attention from bullying. Supporting his site in any way promotes bullying. Viewing a video on his site that's against bullying... is promoting bullying. He is a hypocrite. You want to stop bullying? Stop supporting the products of bullies.

Why did I write this? Because I hate people who say one thing & do another & attempt to gain sympathy for something that they're guilty of themselves. I feel if you're going to be evil, man up & embrace it. That, and I'm between attacks on muggle villages & was kind of bored. If you're still reading this, think about what I said. Actually, do whatever the fuck you want. I don't really care. That's why I'm a bully and a villain. Also, seriously? UNITY wasn't just a concept for profit, but an actual revolution to fight one fight! But politics is a popularity contest I am learning, and I accepted a long time ago that I was never one of the cool kids. I embrace being the underdog and love serving my communities because it's the right thing to do. Unfortunately, these days, many people are in it for the profit, the glory, the entitlement they think they get. It's truly sad. What's even more sad is that grown adults will stoop to high school gossipy ways and feel the need to mask their insecurities with vile speech and destructive intentions...

I am a pretty blunt and forward type of girl. I call it like it is, own my mistakes knowing nobody is ever perfect, and feel that honesty and authenticity is always the best route to go. I believe in transparency, personally and professionally. I have nothing to hide, there are moments I am not too proud of, but I live with no regrets because I wouldn't be the person I am today without the broken road that led me here. So I accept things as they are and do my best to strive for improvement.

I don't understand what's so threatening about a fairly smart young woman who desires to make change in her community with pure intentions and a true heart. I didn't realize it stepped on your toes of what you thought your 5 year plan looked like. I didn't realize that freedom and grassroots democracy was such a scary thing to leave up to the people without influence or control. I wasn't aware that your insecurities drive you to be hurtful, mean, spiteful and vindictive because you are so focused on your own greed and power that you refuse to let ANY one stand in your way... except yourself that is.

My definition of winning is that more people are aware of The Green Party, its 10 Key Values and to create a comfort in knowing that any and every one can make a difference, and that change isn't just about the big things and big people and big parties, but that anyone who wants to stand up and speak out can and should be able to do. That's Freedom. That's a win. Others may not agree, that's fine. Does that mean I should disown you, shun you, talk shit about you, belittle and patronize you because your thoughts or different. ABSOLUTELY NOT. Does it mean we can't work together? ABSOLUTELY NOT. But it is your choice as well as mine on what we can accomplish together. Too bad some people don't get that concept, or rather would not want to utilize true unity to its full potential.

Just a vent. Oh the joys of learning how to "play politics." This isn't a game: There are real people with real issues and real lives at stake here. While others are playing politics, I'll be working hard to find solutions to our problems through input and problem solving together with my communities. It's never to late to jump on board...

Thankful...

I am just so thankful for such an amazing day. It's an opportunity for the LGBTQ community and communities of color to come together and fight for equality for minorities in our country. Is that happening right now? Of course not. Instead of building bridges, unifying our communities and fighting ONE FIGHT together, we're still off in our separate battles towards the same ends in mind. As a Latina/Black/Lesbian Army Veteran, I refuse to pick a side and instead ask and encourage you to join me in passing equality together.

Who's  with me?

We have a list of Senators to phone bank/email who are on the fence or have made it clear that they are voting no, so let's put pressure on them. We have a tremendous amount of resources and connections in our communities that could help put additional pressure on these Senators as well. We have the amazing stories from those effected by these discriminatory injustices like the brave military members who have lost their careers, families and friends from being discharged through DADT and the DREAMERS who have risked their lives, homes and deportation to step forward to fight for equality.

We need to work together. Keep recruiting them, keep... organizing them, keep screaming out of one side of your mouth at dems that it's about the issues and then out of the other side of your mouth shout in the bent ears of the people you are manipulating and exploiting.

If you spent as much time actually working on your campaign to be an upstanding candidate as opposed to putting the pieces in place for your grand scheme, I'm sure you could have made an honest race of things. But when you blatantly and shameless tout that your hands are all over this, it really calls your character, motives, and true intentions in to light.

Our monthly meetings are public, there have been opportunities for YOUR candidates to attend so that we can get to know them and vice versa. Only one candidate took things serious enough to attend, Thomas Meadows, and I personally appreciate him for doing so and was glad to have had the opportunity to hear his ideas. These other candidates have not and still have no positions on the issues that align with Green values. Yes, I know Republicans and Democrats alike are unsure what to do with these values that we hold ourselves, our candidates and our party to, but they are there for instances like these to show that people who go on tv claiming to be legitimate candidates and yet spout off very Non-Green stances on issues are not truly there for anything we would support. Actively opposing candidates who do not represent these values is not a new thing that your exploited "friends" are being singled out on, case in point Marguerite Dale and Jack Kretzer from the 2008 elections who were obviously not in alignment with Green Party values and were actively opposed during the election. So opposing your candidates has nothing to do with their socio-economic status, quit trying to spin that in your favor. In my own opinion, it has everything to do with values, standards, and principals.

Discussions with Green Party Lavender Green Caucus

<meta content="text/html; I believe that many voters are so unaware of our party and its values that they become very supportive when informed on these issues.

-What are the most pressing issues facing your constituents? What are the solutions you are proposing for such issues? -How have you articulated the need for local green economic development in your district?

Currently in our state the main issues are: SB1070/Immigration Reform, Education, Economy and Jobs.

I believe that SB1070 does nothing to secure our neighborhoods, create jobs, or strengthen Federal Immigration Reform so I do NOT support enforcing a broken policy built on fear and discrimination. Regarding education, I feel that it’s important to identify the gross inequalities between schools and districts across the state to ensure equal accessibility to education and resources. I also believe it’s important to educate our youth on how to be responsible, informed, and involved citizens regarding civic duties. As far as our Economy and Jobs are concerned I believe it’s important to focus on business/tourism/green industry in our state. Implementing Marriage Equality would not only be monumental in recognizing our LGBT partnerships in our state, but also would create sustainable revenue through business and tourism. We would be the only state West of Iowa (until California resumes same-sex marriages) that would offer same-sex marriages which would be huge for our hospitality and tourism industry in our state by creating income that is not sales-tax dependent. I also feel that by working on hydrogen conversions on vehicles and mass transportation would not only help on an environmental level, but also on a revenue level by creating Green jobs and industry as well as promoting local businesses and long-term investment in our state.

-What does "comprehensive immigration reform" mean to you? What does include?

Comprehensive Immigration Reform would be federally enacted and enforced legislation that would ban English-only regulations, grant a legal status which includes the chance to become a citizen to undocumented immigrants who are already residing and working in the United States, and their families, creates permanent border passes for Canadian and Mexican citizens to identify/trace/verify individuals and make obtaining work permits easier, end employer sanctions, and strengthen our relationship with Mexico to better assist with decreasing violent and drug-related organized crime.

Thank you Echo Magazine!

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; I was on plenty of unapproved Republican lists in years past--though I won the votes of real ...Republicans, Democrats, Independents and others.

I reviewed your ten key values with my friends long ago before they ever filed to run. They support them all. Interesting that I know more about your candidates than you do. But that's because I listen before I judge. You guys should try it sometime, you might be surprised what you'll learn.

Whether you like it or not these are your nominees. Meet with them and get to know them--you might find that they are better than you imagined. They are on the ballot and they are not going away any time soon.

I met with Grand Pa Goshorn last night to prepare for the LD17 debate tonight at ASU. He said to me, "This is not a sham, it's a revolution!"

I understand why you and your fellow Green beans are hurt that you got outmaneuvered by a bunch of regular guys on Mill Ave. But you need to get over it and get to know the people who are going to represent your party to the public. Come to the debate tonight and meet Grand Pa--you'll be impressed.

Lastly, it's too bad that the Greens don't believe in free and fair elections. By you placing these candidates on an "unapproved" list you are doing exactly what the Democrat Party has done--mislead voters with untruthful information. You don't even know these people and you are telling people what they do or don't believe or stand for. You misrepresent them and their beliefs. Why don't you guys just leave them alone and let their campaigns and message develop? And stop falling for the lies told to you by the professionals at the Arizona Democrat Party.

SHAME ON YOU!

Luisa Evonne Valdez
Steve, SHAME ON YOU for just admitting that you have been helping these faux greens for a long time now.Why are you so concerned with providing and informing and recruiting Green candidates? Where are your truths? We support our true Green ...Party candidates, not republican recruited and exploited individuals.

I find it interesting that language you choose to use in your last response: "I reviewed your ten key values with my friends long ago before they ever filed to run. They support them all. Interesting that I know more about your candidates than you do" Interesting indeed Steve that you do know more about these faux greens than anyone... Also, your statement, "I understand why you and your fellow Green beans are hurt that you got outmaneuvered by a bunch of regular guys on Mill Ave. But you need to get over it and get to know the people who are going to represent your party to the public." Outmaneuvered... hmm, sounds like an admission of strategical talks between you and your "friends" to ambush our party lines. And let us be VERY clear here: These are indeed YOUR candidates in OUR party.

Lastly, in response to "Why don't you guys just leave them alone and let their campaigns and message develop? And stop falling for the lies told to you by the professionals at the Arizona Democrat Party...SHAME ON YOU!" Why don't YOU just leave them and alone and let their campaigns and messages develop instead of recruiting, coaching and exploiting faux greens?

SHAME ON YOU STEVE MAY.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://luisa4greenaz.blogspot.com/2010/09/what-do-you-call-someone-who-is-trying.html' title='What do you call someone who is trying to undermine state voters? In fact, i heard from Thomas Meadows (running for treasurer) that you are. If I had to be "vetted" or "approved" by the grand poo-bahs at the GOP I never would have been elected. But i've won 4 primaries. It's not up to party officials to choose the candidates, it's up to the people. And the people have spoken and will speak again. These values guide us in countering and changing a system that extols exploitation, unsustainable consumption, and destructive competition. These aren't just talking points for good sound bites that we use to our benefit for media attention, these are values that we passionately fight for and to see people attempting to hijack our party lines for any reason other than promoting these 10 Key Values will not be taken lightly.

We, as a national party, can fight for marriage equality, can unitedly say that a woman's right to control her body is non-negotiable, and fight for many progressive, social, and humanitarian rights in addition to our strong desire for conservation, preservation, and protection of our natural resources and histories. This is part of the expected standard for candidates wishing to represent our party in elections, that they represent these values, hence the vetting and endorsement process to deter and prevent fraudulent candidates from derailing the standards we have in place.

Your friend, Thomas Meadows who is running for treasurer is listed as part of the ACTIVELY OPPOSED candidates from our party for the upcoming elections (http://azgp.org/content/arizona-green-party-azgp-press-release-azgp-announces-endorsed-candidates-2010-elections)

You are correct that is the people's choice to choose, but they also are entitled to know who are legitimate candidates running on party values. You are also correct in asserting that your party does not do vetting/endorsement processes, but maybe if there were standards and values for it's candidates in place, it wouldn't have the quality of people running for and in office that is has, does and will in the future. (This also goes for Democrats as well).

If you'd like to learn more about our The Ten Key Values of the Green Party, please visit my site, http://luisavaldez.com/GreenParty_TheIssues.html or the national party site at http://www.gp.org/tenkey.shtml

VETTED AND ENDORSED Arizona Green Party Candidates for 2010

Arizona Green Party (AZGP) press release: AZGP announces endorsed candidates for 2010 elections

Tue, 08/24/2010 - 13:58 — co-chair

Arizona Green Party (AZGP) * P.O. All of the candidates were interviewed, answered questions on their campaigns, their support for the Green Party Ten Key Values and our national Green Party-US platform. The following Green Party candidates have been endorsed by AZGP. We encourage registered voters in Arizona to vote for, support, volunteer, and donate to their campaigns:

Jerry Joslyn: U.S. Senate;
William Crum: U.S. Congress (CD 2),  write-in candidate for General Election;
Leonard Clark: U.S. Congress  (CD 3), write-in candidate;
Rebecca DeWitt: U.S. Congress (CD 4);
Deborah O'Dowd: State Representative (LD 6), write-in candidate;
Justin  Dahl: State Representative (LD 12);
Luisa Valdez: State Representative  (LD 15);
Angel Torres: State Representative (LD 16);
Gregor Knauer:  State Representative (LD 17);
Linda Macias: State Representative (LD  21);
Kent Solberg: State Representative (LD 27).

Leonard Clark said, "I am glad to be endorsed by the Arizona Green Party. It's about time that the people of Arizona have a real choice when they go to vote."

Richard Grayson, write-in candidate for U.S. Congress (CD 6), was vetted, but remains non-endorsed by AZGP. If he is successful in the Primary Election, the Arizona Green Party may reconsider endorsing him for the General Election.

Claudia Ellquist, AZGP state co-chair, stated, "There are several Green Party candidates that are actively opposed. We strongly advise all registered Arizona voters to not waste their votes on these individuals during the August 24th Primary Election or the November 2nd General Election (assuming they advance)." The offices include:
Governor,
Secretary of State (write-in),
Treasurer (write-in),
Corporation Commission (2 write-in candidates),
U.S. Congress (CD 5,  write-in),
State Senate (LD 10, 2 write-in candidates),
State  Representative (LD 17, write-in),
State Senate (LD 17, write-in),
State  Representative (LD 20, write-in),
State Representative (LD 22, write-in), and State Senate (LD 23, write-in).

Angel Torres, AZGP state co-chair and candidate for LD 16, stated, “It is absolutely critical that our candidates are interviewed, vetted and endorsed by AZGP. This lets our registered Arizona Greens know that these candidates have met our standards, and are not carpetbaggers or opportunists trying to hijack our ballot line.”

The mission of the Arizona Green Party (AZGP) is to build and sustain an alternative, progressive political party that promotes and practices the Ten Key Values. We do not accept corporate donations and uniquely rely on the generosity of individual donors and volunteers. The four pillars of the Green Party are Grassroots Democracy, Social Justice, Ecological Wisdom, and Non-violence.

Lavender Green Caucus Questionnaire

<meta content="text/html; It’s hard enough facing the world, but when your own people are casting you out, it becomes that much more difficult to gain footing. Coming out to our families, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and communities is so vital to not only create a sense of awareness and understanding for those around us, but also to empower others to find strength, not shame, in themselves to then create strength in their communities.

20 What are the biggest issues facing LGBT people with disabilities?

I feel we need more community resources for socialization and community outings that aren’t always in a typical bar setting that all people can accessibly and affordably enjoy.

21 Please describe (briefly) what your top goals will be if elected to this office.

Regarding LGBT issues, If I were elected to the Arizona House of Representatives in District 15, I would focus on creating employment and housing non-discrimination policies, anti-bullying policies for ALL educational institutions, students, staff and faculty members, and creating a sexual orientation, gender identity and expression protection class for citizens.

22 In the past, what LGBT related events, activities, or organizations have you participated in or been a member of or are currently a member of?

I have volunteered with GLSEN, Planned Parenthood, volunteered and performed at Phoenix Pride and Rainbows Festival, have completed a LGBT studies course at Glendale Community College, helped organize a rally in Nov. 2008 after the passage of Prop 102 in AZ and Prop 8 in CA of over 5000 people that marched from city hall to our capitol building in protest against these hateful constitutional amendments, facilitated discussions and trainings to build bridges between communities of color and the LGBT community, I have been a panel speaker at 1n10 which is a local LGBT youth organization, I was recently arrested at Senator John McCain’s office in May of this year regarding a civil disobedience action against his stance on the discriminatory “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy, I am a former steering committee member of H.E.R.O (Human and Equal Rights Organizers), I am current member of Sisterzz Twisted Drag Troupe which the first Drag King troupe in Phoenix and is the only troupe to exclusively raise funds for LGBT organizations and community members for the past 10+ years in Phoenix. Though I am uncontested, it being my first Primary, I was still so nervous and anxious to see the results. For the Democratic race, I decided to support Ken Clark because I truly value his ideals for a "greener" future for our state, enjoyed learning about the importance of redistricting for Arizona and just appreciated his willingness to share openly his motivation and determination for much needed change. He took time out of his busy professional/political/personal life to sit and have tea with me at Copper Star and let me vent about my fears and nervousness of being a new candidate and learning as I go.

Last night as results were coming in, I joined Team Ken Clark at Hula's to be part of the night's buzz. I was promptly and warmly greeted and hugged by the beautifully passionate Amy Love, who is just beyond words adorable and equally as intelligent. I was so happy to have finally met her in person. I waited politely for some supporters to finish up their well wishes before I jumped in to congratulate Ken on running such a great campaign when my outward stretched hand was ignored an quickly turned into a big embrace from Ken followed by a simple "thank you for coming, I'm so glad you're here." Gratitude seems like no stranger to Ken, and I am honored to have witnessed his conversations of appreciation to all of his supporters who showed up. He is a true representation of grace and humbleness and I am inspired to become as great of a leader.

Katie Hobbs and Lela Alston are moving on to the General Elections in November and I am happy for their team win. I am excited to run beside them to fight for our district and I truly feel like I have lots to be thankful for thus far in the election.

I am running on my principals for what I truly care most about: creating a better community in our state. Time to focus on the General Elections this November 2nd and make true change for Arizona! Thanks for your support and encouragement all over AZ and beyond! El futuro es verde!

What Prop 8 And SB 1070 Have In Common - Well, if people like Harvey Milk, Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr., Medgar Evers, Mildred & Richard Perry Loving, The thirteen parents of twenty children who were the plantiffs of Brown V. If larger business were paying full taxes without huge incentives/tax breaks and were also required to have community benefit agreements that hold them accountable to providing for their surrounding communities , our state is people would benefit tremendously. I also feel that tourism to our state could grow tremendously if marriage equality was implemented.

Other Concerns: Diversity issues regarding benefits for young veterans, comprehensive women's health care that is affordable/accessible, nondiscrimination policies inclusive of sexual orientation and gender identity, ecological protection and conservation regarding water resources, parks/open space sustainable clean energy, and preservation of natural and historical areas.

Fiscal Philosophy: I believe in a balanced budget, fair taxation across all economic boundaries, true cost pricing, living wages, banking and insurance reform, ecological and community based economics and sustainability.

Proposition 100 Sales Tax: I opposed the tax increase because the ultimate answer to our state's budget crisis should not lie imbalanced on the backs of our children, educators, public safety and tax payers but on those of the Legislature to ensure fiscal responsibility.

Pro-life or Pro-Choice: A woman's right to control their body is non-negotiable. It is essential that the option of a safe, legal abortion remains available. The "morning-after" pill must be affordable, easily accessible, and distributed unbiasedly without a prescription, together with a government-sponsored public relations campaign to educate women about this and all forms of contraception, their bodies, and responsibilities regarding sexual activity, regardless of age or marital status.

Background & Experience: I am a local, home-grown candidate, raised almost entirely in District 15. I joined the Army when I was 17 and it instilled in me my core values of: loyalty, duty , respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage. However, my passion, enthusiasm and desire to create change truly came from being part of my community. I am the only Green Party candidate running in our district and believe it's important to represent the 10 Key Values of The Green Party: Grassroots Democracy, Social Justice and Equal Opportunity, Ecological Wisdom, Decentralization, Non-violence, Community-based Economics and Economic Justice, Feminism and Gender Equity, Respect for Diversity, Personal and Global Responsibility, and Future Focus and Sustainability.

Q & A with District 15 Candidate Luisa Valdez by Luis Garcia

With the departure of Kyrsten Sinema from the Arizona House of Representatives District 15, the heart of the LGBT community could be left without an openly LGBT representative in the Arizona House since 1994.

Our fourth candidate in this multiple-part feature is Green Party candidate and lesbian, Luisa Valdez.

Tell me a about your education and background.
As a disabled veteran and full time student, I have dedicated my life to service; to my country, community and to quality of life. Raised in Phoenix almost my entire life, I graduated high school a full year early and enlisted active duty as logistics and supply in The United States Army. Currently, I am an Herbalism and holistic health student at the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts. Alternative medicine has become a life transforming and ever evolving experience that motivates me to “be the change” I wish to see!

What are your qualifications? What separates you from the other candidates?
As far as qualifications and what separates me from the other candidates,I am a local, home-grown
candidate, raised almost entirely in District 15. Who better to represent a community than one of its own? I joined the Army when I was 17 and it instilled in me my core values of: loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage (LDRSHIP)! I am the only Green Party candidate running in our district and believe it’s important to represent the 10 Key Values of our party:
• Grassroots Democracy
• Social Justice and Equal Opportunity
• Ecological Wisdom
• Decentralization
• Non-Violence
• Community Based Economics and Economic Justice
• Feminism and Gender Equity
• Respect for Diversity
• Personal and Global Responsibility
• Future Focus and Sustainability

How do feel about the work of the Legislature as a whole regarding gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender issues during the most recent session. Are there issues where you would like to see a
change of direction?
I think that as a whole, we have some good legislators that introduce and work tirelessly on bills that unfortunately get stuck in committees. I look forward to learning from everyone and also working on ways to create paths of progress.

How long do you want to serve?
I would like to serve as long as I can make difference that impacts our communities. It’s up to the community to decide how long that may be!

Tell me about past work you have done with the LGBT organizations and individuals?
The first LGBTQ organization I ever worked with was GLSEN in ‘06. I was in an LGBT studies class at GCC and we had guest speakers Loren Cannon and Jessica Pettitt give a presentation on diversity, the
trans community, and labels. I spoke with Loren after class and he gave me the contact info for Madelaine Adelman and Laurie Provost. It was so inspiring to see all of their work and learn how to talk with educators about LGBTQ youth issues. It sparked the passion I have today for community service, awareness education and activism. Since then I have volunteered with Planned Parenthood with LGBTQ outreach, Sisterzz Twisted which is the longest running Drag King Troupe that exclusively raises money for LGBTQ community members and causes in the valley, I have sat on discussion panels for 1n10, and am past steering committee member of H.E.R.O.

What are your thoughts about Prop. 102. Do you support full marriage equality?
Prop 102 was a ridiculous waste of tax payer’s time and money. Marriage was already defined between a man and a woman, the measure was voted no on in 2006 and time should have been spent focusing on important state issues like border safety, education, mortgage crisis and budget deficits rather than divisive redundancy. It was a devastating blow to the LGBTQ community here because of how much hate and lies were generated in our State coupled with the passing of Prop 8 in California. I support equal rights for all people including marriage equality. I believe that same sex relationships deserve recognition and are entitled to the same benefits that heterosexual relationships have. Whether
it’s full Marriage Equality with no exceptions as far sexual orientation or the creation of Civil Marriage for
all who do not marry in a religious institution (LGBTQ & Straight couples alike), either option needs
to include full recognition, protection and benefits under the law.

How important is it for LGBT individuals to get involved and engaged in the political process?
Involvement of us LGBTQ individuals in the political process is vital because if we aren’t out there
fighting for our own rights, who will? We should be at the table discussing our options, putting in our
opinions and being engaged in the civic process because it is our rightand responsibility. It is also important to help create awareness and education about our specific issues and changes that need to be made so we are no longer just words on paper, but real people working hard and striving for quality.

What are your other top priorities?
My top priorities for our state are diversity, ecological wisdom and community based economics and
economic justice. They completely give themselves 100%, and work on just this one fight like it's the only fight in the world that matters. If I wanted to be a good leader, I shouldn't be working on so many fights like social activism, community organizing and being a Green Party candidate. In order to be effective and have power, I needed to focus on just one fight.

Initially I was offended by this concept, hurt even. I felt like I would never be able to accomplish anything because I wanted to accomplish so much. Am I TOO ambitious? Am I CRAZY for wanting to change the world? Will I end up a being a jack-of-all-trades and master of none concerning activism and community organizing? I spent a lot of time and tears trying to figure out what to do. Do I give up on trying to make change? Can I focus on just one fight? I had no answers and a heavy heart.

Tonight my fiancee and I went to see the movie premier of La Mission. It was beyond inspirational, so compelling, and I can't stress enough the necessity and relevance the movie's message has. It was such an honor to be sitting in a room full of such powerful international and local leaders like Dolores Huerta, Alfredo Gutierrez, Peter & Benjamin Bratt, Jeremy Ray Valdez, Michael Nowakowski, Gerardo Higginson, Kyrsten Sinema and Ernesto Ortiz.

I left the premier with a new perspective on focusing on just one fight. Originally I felt defeated by thinking I had to narrow down my agenda for helping facilitate a better, brighter future. I now realize that my interpretation of focusing on one fight encompasses all of the areas I have, am, and want to see change in. At the end of the day, I can't just fight for LGBTQ/gender equality or environmental rights. I can't just fight against economic injustice and racial discrimination. I can't just fight for better benefits for young and old veterans alike as well as individuals with disabilities. Because at the end of the day, I am not just an activist or community organizer.

I am a young, Latina and Black female that cares about protecting our environment.
I am a disabled Army veteran worried about better benefits for my brothers and sisters in arms.
I am engaged to an amazing woman that I love dearly and can't wait to start a family with.

This is my one fight. One fight to bring power back to the people. One fight to end inequality both socially and economically. One fight for sustainability and ecological responsibility. Because we are one people, sharing one world, and this one fight has to be our ONLY focus in order to make change. We have to completely give ourselves 100%, and work on just this one fight like it's the only fight in the world that matters.

I can now say I honestly believe in this concept to my core and I commit myself to focus on just this one fight.
